January 21, 2024 Minutes
- Call to Order: Karen Roth, Chairperson called the Board Meeting to order at 3:35 pm. Roth introduced and welcomed newly appointed Board Member Karen LaCorte-Nies
- Roll Call:
- Martha Frenchek conducted Roll Call.
- Present: Karen Roth, Jeffery Gellermann, Karen LaCorte-Nies, Nancy McKibben, Angela Pietras, Maggie Paluch, Cheryl Morales, and Lisa Kothe. A quorum was represented.
- Absent: Michael Jefferis, Michael Delk, Brian Lowack
- Guests: Matthew David, Library Director and Cathy Wos Assistant Library Director, Palm Harbor Library.
- Minutes from November 29, 2023: The minutes were accepted as presented. (Pietras/LaCorte-Nies)
- Financial Committee Report:
- Level Four Management Report: November/December 2023
- PDR Account Financial Statement: November/December 2023
- Level 4 Financial Advisor was present during the Finance Committee meeting, and they discussed the investment policy. All Finances are on track.

- Executive Director’s Report – Cheryl Morales
- Building / Admin.
- The new Office Manager is in place and doing very well.
- Property Insurance – premium increased by over 350%- shopped around and received a better rate with different carrier.
- Countywide Services / Member Libraries
- DLC and TBL reports are included in the agenda packet.
- Update given on the Sirsi ILS-Mobile App development. Update given on grant projects/partnership opportunities and workforce development appropriation request.

- 1.5.24 Pinellas City Manager meeting – PPLC presentation

- Upcoming:
- Meet with a commercial realtor to begin process of selling 1330 and relocating offices.

- Annual review of Executive Director. Roth led a discussion with the Board of Directors in Executive Session.

- Member Library Spotlight – Palm Harbor Library (PHL) Matthew David and Cathy Wos highlighted PHL library programs:
- Over one hundred volunteers
- Friends of the Library
- Gaming Center
- Musical Garden
- ACE CON 2-day event in March.
- Open House on April 26th -to celebrate the library’s 46 year anniversary.
- Internal Controls Policy – revision. Morales presented a draft revision to the Internal Controls Policies with focus on the Office Manager’s responsibilities in securely handling documents and funds. The proposed revision passed unanimously. (LaCorte-Neis-Gellermann).
- Member Library Spotlight – Palm Harbor Library (PHL) Matthew David and Cathy Wos highlighted PHL library programs:

- Minutes of LDAC Meeting November 13, 2023
- November meeting hosted Judith Anderson, Pinellas County Human Services, who discussed available services for residents.
- January Meeting explored online library card registration options.
- Announcements/Miscellaneous:
- Kothe commented construction will begin on February 12 to add a second story at the Safety Harbor Library. 12 months to completion. Kothe commented on PPLC staffs (Sabila Beganovic with Rosa Rodriguez interpreting ASL) impactful presentation at the City Commission meeting. The presentation led to approval of the library’s second floor plan, according to Kothe.
- Morales announced that Casey McPhee, the Director of Largo Public Library, is scheduled for kidney transplant surgery in March 2024.
