E-Content: Meeting was cancelled at the last minute; no report.
Youth Services: Group held in-depth discussion on collection development and weeding, unique to each library with some similarities. Future topics: use of music, copyright and story time.
Cataloging: Feb meeting cancelled; next meeting May 15.
Circulation/Borrower Services: Next meeting in May.
Adult Services: Next meeting March 13.
DEIA: Met Feb 14 via Zoom, not as well attended; read an article about remote resources and mental health; discussed Black Caucus at ALA, projects, promoting the group, staff login on PPLC website, survey, Pride subcommittee, outreach calendar. - Old Business
Online card registration update -CM/Dino: Libby has an online card with a limited amount of checkouts; Dino is in discussions with Sirsi to have custom work performed for patron registration/authentication.
Update of Public Services Policy -Committee: next meeting this week; new chair: Dave McMurrin. - New Business
- Location of April Meeting -LK: Group discussed options and decided to meet next month at PPLC, which includes a free lunch.
- SPLS request for new location code J-SERIES -AF: St. Pete Children’s Dept. requested to add a new location code to assist patrons better locate items and for more accurate statistics. Dave mentioned they did this at PP and it worked well. Motion: Angela; Second: Dave McMurrin. Passed.
- Poll Low-Circ Item Types – Continuing to budget for audiobooks, print mag? -LE: Lois mentioned she anticipates their budget for next year will be flat with no increases and inquired if any other libs have stopped ordering new books on CD. Betcinda mentioned they stopped ordering books on CD 1.5 years ago at St. Pete Beach and that subsequently, usage for Libby and iCloud went up; she also mentioned they put a sticker on print magazines to indicate which ones are available via Libby, and anticipates they will have fewer print magazines, save for those available in print only.
- Dave McMurrin stated they have not purchased audio CDs at PP for some time, and that they purchased the Libby Advantage plan for access to audiobooks. Lisa mentioned that folks from the Talking Books library are interested in books on CD. Cathy stated they have reduced the purchase of new DVDs at PH.
- PPLC Topics
- Updates from Sirsi Conference/other topics -CM/Dino: Cheryl and Dino attended the COSUGI conference in Provo Mar 3-8. Our Sirsi/Dynix ILS is comprised of: Workflows: staff modules; Enterprise: GUI search engine and Blue Cloud, used for analytics, cataloging, circ, mobile app. Blue Cloud discovery layer in production/pilot testing and libraries report it is easy to use.
- Dino working one enhancing Blue Cloud analytics to make it more visually appealing. The Universal Harvester data harvesting product is becoming centralized; Cloud Source is a module for open access journal articles; Community Engagement platform will include a calendar component, plus marketing, on-boarding and off-boarding features; Enterprise is being updated to modernize its look and feel. Blue Cloud discovery is a more modern way of searching the catalog.
- Blue Cloud Mobile 2 is 6-8 weeks from implementation. There are currently no plans at PPLC to look into other ILS.
- PPLC Board Meeting Update:
The board liked the list of future presenting libraries; PPLC has been in discussions with the county regarding moving to a new county-owned property near Ulmerton Road and Icot Center vicinity. around 2028. - Public Comment: None.
- Announcements from PPLC Libraries (10 minutes):
Clearwater: Comic Con event on April 20th at N. Greenwood Branch
Dunedin: new playground equipment ordered, installation late summer; lots of upcoming author events, including a watch party April 8th; 4 open positions
East Lake: Thurs is Pie Day; library offering free pie that day; Held author event on International Women’s Day; volunteer appreciation breakfast in April; community public forum next month
Gulf Beaches: upcoming poetry reading event; board wants to refill time capsule; please send Stanley your suggestions
Largo: Geri will be taking over director’s responsibilities while she recuperates from surgery; Holocaust healing program next week; Largo community reads Mar 21; positions have been offered to 2 new outreach librarians and a p/t position is open
Oldsmar: volunteers from the Supervisor of Elections are on-hand collecting ballots; work on the A/C system has been scheduled
Palm Harbor: Ace Con Convention held last weekend, attended by 550 people! Open house April 26 for 46th anniversary; new pickup location (drive through)
Pinellas Park: Held 1st FAFSA application event: 55 students completed applications; will repeat event next year due to success
Safety Harbor: Construction has begun programs to be held at the museum; summer programs at local church; community art fundraise
St. Pete Beach: completed RFID tagging project in stacks; have an opening for a cataloger; looking into changing the cataloger job description; Betcinda is doing the cataloging in the interim
St. Petersburg: Beth Lindsey is the interim library director effective today
Seminole: 3 bathrooms are back in order; Library Asst. I recently hired, starting April 1; offer made to Librarian II (Adult Information Services) undergoing background checks; Friends of the Library auction and sale events next month.
PPLC: East Lake will soon be adding records to the Pinellas Memory Project (PMP); PMP will be migrating to a new database, for a cleaner look; no timeline yet the database currently holds approx. terabytes of data; PPLC is looking to partner with the state’s Memory Project, then with the Sunshine State Digital Network and then with the Digital Public Library of America.in for awards. - Adjourned at 1:59 pm
