Discussion:
With Andrew Sanderbeck- Review of director’s break-out session topics for Countywide Staff Day. Topics decided to discuss: Ways to improve staff morale, address burnout and staff retention, including refining hiring to include people/ customer service skills versus technical ability. Other ideas reviewed, but not added to LDAC agenda: Reinforcing the value of libraries.
Acceptance of August 2023 Minutes: Motion made by Lois, second by Betcinda. All in favor.

– Installation of new SIG Chairs and LDAC Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary – FY24: Lisa agreed to continue as chair for FY24, Dave McMurrin moved from secretary to Vice Chair, Stanley volunteered as secretary. Motion made by Betcinda, second, by Dave Mather. All in favor.

DEI – OPEN
– Ways to ensure expensive Special Collection/Realia Items are returned (Lois) – Glenn suggested – Draft release by legal signed prior to lending to agree to return items or be subject to legal action for non-return of materials. High ticket items include Go Pros, sewing machines, etc.
PPLC Topics – None
PPLC Board Meeting – No meeting in August.
Announcements from PPLC Libraries:
Clearwater– Sprinkler system burst at Main Library. Remediation process began. Facility will be closed at least a month or more. Bins rerouted to Countryside. Holds to North Greenwood. 80,000 volumes damaged. Drywall, furniture, carpet, etc. will need to be replaced.
Dunedin– Attendance has increased. Building projects include new carpet, interior paint, roof replacement. Passport service is going well and brings in new patrons.
East Lake: Passports, room rentals and helping with the revenue stream. Site safety survey in process. Announced November 10 fundraiser Wine Not event.
Gulf Beaches: New notary service. Charging $5 a stamp. (East Lake charges $8, Dunedin $5 a stamp.) Interested in Passport service. New classes; Tai Chi and Mediation.
Gulfport: History Museum and Art Center will be under the library budget. Additional staff needed.
Largo: Welcome Week with the Barbara Ponce PPK was successful. Career Online High School Graduation last month was rewarding with graduates from Largo, St. Pete, and Safety Harbor. Two new positions in the new FY budget; Facility Assistant and Library Assistant III to enable promotion and growth from within. Hired a new Circ Supervisor formally from Manatee County Library System. Will celebrate Friends of the Library Week in October with a proclamation. Received a donation of $50,000 earmarked for e-books. Working on an Intellectual Freedom Campaign to share countywide. Team Largo will participate in the Tampa Bay Kidney Walk on September 17. Articles on Casey in local newspapers looking for a live kidney donor.
Oldsmar: Collections from the Oldsmar Historical Society and Museum will relocate to the library in two years and be managed by the library.
Palm Harbor: New shelving in youth services. Roof installation postponed. Created and distributed Welcome Week baskets. Waiting on final county ad volorem tax assessments. New director will be hired by the end of September.
St. Pete Beach: RFID will be installed soon. Not sure if gates will be installed. Adding Freegal on 10/1. No longer buying physical music. Getting better at marketing online resources. A position created for person on the spectrum in partnership with the Center for Autism. Quiet browsing hours implemented.
Seminole: Carpet project is complete. Three open positions. FOL Book Sale through 9/16. Permanent change in reduction of hours. Library will no longer be open until 9PM, reducing staff hours.
Tarpon Springs: Florida Humanities author talk with Craig Pittman set. Library Mini Golf event upcoming.
Safety Harbor: Bids for second story construction received and being reviewed for city commission approval. Proclamation set for October City Commission meeting to recognize Friends of the Library Week.
