The Coolest Place to Be

It’s August in Pinellas County, which means sunshine, humidity, and plenty of heat. A new school year is starting, along with the associated increase in traffic. If only there were a place to spend some time in a quiet, well air-conditioned space for free . . .

Oh wait, there is such a place – a PPLC Member Library!

When the afternoon forecast is “hot with a chance of even hotter,” the library is the perfect place to cool off. No sunscreen required, no parking fees, and no need to explain why you’re lingering in the air conditioning.

Of course, there’s plenty to do while you’re here. Browse the shelves for your next favorite book, catch up on emails or social media with free Wi-Fi, page through a print magazine, or discover a new movie or audiobook. Your library card also unlocks digital books, streaming entertainment, and free admission to participating museums through the Museum Pass program.

Looking for free entertainment or learning opportunities? Libraries offer movie showings (sometimes with free snacks!), hands-on arts and crafts workshops, book clubs for all types of readers, ESL and ASL classes, and so many more programs for all ages. Take a look at the events calendar to explore the August programs on offer!

So the next time the Florida heat has you checking the weather app just to confirm that yes, it really is 95 degrees again, head to YOUR local PPLC Member Library. It just might be the coolest place in Pinellas County.
